Sustainability at Müroll

Focus on sustainability

Müroll is Austria’s only manufacturer of packaging tapes and places great importance on environmental protection. The company uses a special system that recovers 99.8% of solvents, reducing consumption from 400 tonnes to just 35 tonnes per year since 2016. Since 2021, solar panels on the building have supplied 15% of the electricity, with 85% coming from renewable sources.

  • CO₂ & clean air: closed-loop system for solvents, electric vehicles since 2020 with on-site charging stations.
  • Water: steam is purified and reused; wastewater is treated on site.
  • Waste & recycling: less scrap material, employee training, better recycling methods.
  • Greenline products: eco-friendly materials, efficient production, all cores made of 100% recycled or sustainable materials.
Sustainability starts with the |raw material|.
Beyond energy and water

Sustainability starts with the raw material.

For us, sustainability does not end with energy and water. It starts with the selection of our raw materials, extends through efficient production processes and the lowest possible use of materials, all the way to developing products that help our customers optimise their packaging and thereby make it more sustainable.

We supply the optimal adhesive tape and the optimal labels so that our customers’ packaging and labelling processes run flawlessly. In concrete terms, this means: the tape sticks the first time, and nothing has to be taped twice. Till roll printouts remain legible in the long term, and printing, adhesion and labelling work optimally. We optimise packaging and labelling and keep them running smoothly.

We make packaging work. We make sustainability work.

Our investments

Since 2010, EUR 14.16 million has been invested in sustainability and efficiency. A new solvent recovery plant recycles 99.8%, recovers heat and saves ~800 tonnes of CO₂ per year. The modern logistics centre features a timber roof and LED sensors and gives preference to regional suppliers.

  1. 2010/11 Modernisation of the recovery plants (EUR 0.30 million)
  2. 2016 High-efficiency solvent recovery for natural rubber (€)
  3. 2018 Water filtration and neutralisation added (EUR 0.15 million)
  4. 2019 Modern adhesive coating line (EUR 6.72 million)
  5. 2021 2,000 m² PV system (~414 kWp), expandable (EUR 0.27 million)
  6. 2021 New logistics centre (EUR 5.20 million)
  7. 2023 New office building to current environmental standards
  8. 2024 Fully automatic slitting machine for paper products (EUR 1.00 million)
  9. 2025/26 Implementation of a complex vapour reduction system (EUR 2.00 million)

We think in generations.

We want to produce today in a way that our actions will still be justifiable tomorrow. That is why we continuously review and improve our processes, invest in resource-saving technologies and keep developing our products. For us, sustainability means combining ecological responsibility with economic sense and long-term thinking. Because as a family business, we think beyond the next financial year.
